A recent health craze (that’s finally catching on) is one I can actually get behind. Not to toot my own healthy living horn or anything, but it’s also one I’ve been incorporating into my lifestyle for quite some time now.
It’s hard to be productive: going about your day efficiently and with satisfaction without the right eating habits to support it. Food fuels us whether we’re sitting at a desk all-day or chasing around toddlers. But I mean, hello, it’s 2017, we don’t have to survive on celery sticks and powdered supplements to eat right.
The health craze I’m excited about is probiotics. There are a number of ways to get good bacteria and probiotics, but one great way to get them is actually to enjoy the foods that contain them (Activia yogurt, fermented foods, kimchi, kombucha, kefir, tempeh, sauerkraut, and even some dark chocolate) versus adding a whole bunch of supplements.
Rewind: Maybe you haven’t jumped on board yet and you’re still asking what probiotics are.
Well, Probiotics are live microorganisms that have been studied and shown to provide a health benefit when consumed regularly. Probiotic benefits are strain specific so not all probiotics are the same.
Consuming your probiotics through food can help buffer stomach acids and increase the chance that they will make it through the digestive tract to your colon in sufficient numbers.. Fermented foods that contain probiotics, like Activia, can also be a source of nutrients needed for good health, such as calcium, protein, and potassium.
That being said, my personal favorite way to get probiotics is from food, namely – eating Activia lowfat and nonfat yogurts and dairy drinks. It’s not only easy to grab ‘n go, but it’s delicious! It also makes me feel good knowing I’m doing something so simple that can be beneficial for my digestive and overall health.
Through the Activia Probiotic Challenge, I’m starting to incorporate Activia in my diet twice a day. For starters, I eat it for breakfast with a little fruit and granola. In the evening, when my sweet tooth kicks in, I like to sprinkle in a little chocolate cocoa powder or protein powder, and it becomes a dessert!

Activia is how I choose to get my probiotics.. If you ask me, it far outweighs purchasing and remembering to take additional supplements!
