The ultimate flexibility
Flexibility is what initially attracted me to the bullet journal. I’ve used a regular planner for as long as I can remember (the joy of picking out a new planner for each school year!!!) But once I was out of school and started working a normal schedule with more to-do’s than events or assignments, a preset planner just didn’t make sense anymore. I could never get it to work for me, I would use it for a little while then forget about it. With the bullet journal the possibilities are endless. Have a ton of to-do’s in a day or week? No problem, create a spread for that! Need to organize a lot of events for the next few months? Easy! Nothing says flexible like a completely blank journal.
Clears my mind
Like David Allen, author of Getting Things Done, says, “Your mind is made for having ideas, not holding them.” My thoughts, ideas, wants, needs, to-do’s, events and everything in between are all in one place. If I don’t have my bujo on me I write on a post-it or the notes app in my phone and transfer it into my bujo when I can. By doing this I’m not constantly worrying about what I’m forgetting because I know it’s all right there in my journal!
Since my mind is clear I can be my most productive self. Everything is easy to find and all in one spot! I love crossing things off my to-do lists and in true GTD fashion, even my someday and maybe lists.
Last but not least I’m able to unleash my creativity! Preset planners are too rigid to allow for any “outside the box” creativity. I love creating my weekly spreads and coming up with other creative ways to make lists. I’m not the most artistic person in the world but you don’t have to be and that’s the best part. I can doodle and color until my heart’s content!
Do you bullet journal? What do you love about it?
